The US has released a healthcare cybersecurity toolkit to help healthcare and public health organizations protect themselves against cyber threats.
It was developed by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in collaboration with the Healthcare and Public Health Sector Coordinating Council (HSCC).
Healthcare and public health organizations are high-value targets for adversaries due to the sensitive information they possess.
They possess personally identifiable information, financial information, health records, and medical devices, making them vulnerable to cyber attacks.
According to CISA Deputy Director Nitin Natarajan, healthcare organizations are considered “cyber poor” targets, which makes them even more attractive to adversaries, especially under-resourced hospitals and health centers.
The new toolkit provides remedies for healthcare organizations of all sizes, addressing cyber hygiene, tools to build strong cybersecurity foundations, and resources to strengthen defenses against evolving threats.
HHS stated that the toolkit is designed for healthcare and public health organizations at every level of capability, providing them with the necessary resources to manage risks, improve security, and implement mature cybersecurity measures.
