Knowing where to start when it comes to becoming healthier can be a real challenge, so we are here to help with 3 simple swaps that will make the process much easier! You won’t have to make massive sacrifices to make these changes, but they will naturally fit into your routine and will soon become healthy habits without you really realising. Start small and build your way up, as this way, you are much more likely to stick to your goals and become a healthier person. Small and steady is much better than making rash changes that you give up on. So, let’s find out how you can do just that!
Do More Steps
Our very first tip is to do more steps! Getting your body moving is really important when it comes to your health, and walking is a low impact option to get you started. Rather than aiming for something that you see as unachievable like 10,000 steps, start with a smaller goal. For example, if you currently average 2,000 (you can see this information on your phone), try to do 4,000. Once you are comfortably hitting this goal everyday, increase it slightly more.
Small and steady steps are much more achievable, so start small and work your way up to become healthier and feel great! Walking is also great for your mental health, helping to clear your head before or after a busy day, or to give you a break mid-day to refocus, so you’re ready for the rest of the day.
Eat More Vitamins and Minerals
Another great thing you can do to become healthier is to eat more vitamins and minerals. You might do this through supplements, or you can pick up a variety of different fruits and veg when you do the food shop and incorporate them into your meals throughout the week. Try to choose lots of different colours, as they will contain different vitamins to help different functions in your body.
If you’re struggling to eat all of the fruit or veg, or you’re not sure how to use it, pop all your fruit in the blender with water and apple juice to make a smoothie for your family, or add all the vegetables to a pot with some spices and vegetable stock to make a delicious soup. Vitamins and minerals are essential for all of your bodily functions, so eating more of them should be a priority!
Get More Sleep
Last but not least, you need to get more sleep in order to become healthier. Sleep is essential to help your body and mind recover from the day, so you need to be getting 7-8 hours a day. A lack of sleep can not only impact how you feel, but your health too, with chronic sleep deprivation causing serious health problems like high blood pressure, diabetes, heart attacks, heart failure or strokes. So, getting enough good quality sleep is key. To help with this, buy an alarm clock for the morning so you can put your phone away in a drawer an hour before you go to bed. Use this time to do something that helps you to relax, like have a nice hot bath, meditate or read a book!
